Ekiti 2018: Only 25 governorship aspirants recognized – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has revealed that it only recognizes 25 aspirants showing interest in its ticket to run for the 2018 governorship election.

The state Women Leader, Mrs. Dupe Bakare, disclosed this on Tuesday when she led the women caucus to receive the wife of one of the aspirants, Mrs. Modupe Adebomi, at the party secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital. She said the 25 contenders for the APC ticket had officially notified the party of their intent to run for the governorship seat despite the reported number of about 50 aspirants.

Mrs. Adebomi was visiting to promote the governorship aspiration of her husband, Captain Sunday Adebomi, who she said will put women empowerment as a core agenda of his administration if elected.

Mrs. Bakare further explained that only five wives of the governorship aspirants including Mrs. Adebomi had visited the party secretariat to have an interface with women leaders in all the three senatorial districts and the 16 local government areas.

The Ekiti APC Women Leader expressed satisfaction with the number and quality of aspirants showing interest in the party’s ticket which shows that the opposition was poised to coast home to victory at next year’s poll.

Mrs. Adebomi promised that her husband would 40 per cent of political offices to women if he is elected governor in recognition of their importance in the political process.

She said: “Women are home builders, nation builders and important stakeholders in the political process. Women will occupy a pride of place in my husband’s administration.

“Sunday Adebomi is truthful, he will deliver, he does not see politics as a lottery and I am seeking the support of APC women for his aspiration to make Ekiti better.

“I know him to be a decent, trustworthy, dependable and compassionate politician who is running for governor to better the lots of our people.”
