The Ekiti State Government on Friday declared a three-day mourning in honour of the late Military Governor of the old Western Region, Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo.
Gov. Ayodele Fayose, who also signed a condolence register opened by the government, announced this in a state-wide broadcast in Ado-Ekiti. Fayose explained that the declaration was in recognition of the fatherly role the late retired army general played in uplifting the entire western region.
Late Adebayo was also renowned for uniting the people towards the path of integration. The governor conveyed the condolences of his family and the state government to one of the children of the deceased, who was the first civilian governor of Ekiti state, Chief Niyi Adebayo.
The State House of Assembly also commiserated with the people of Iyin-Ekiti in Ekiti state and the entire South-West over the demise of the late general.
Its Speaker, Mr Kola Oluwawole, in a statement signed on his behalf by Dr Samuel Omotoso, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Youth and Sports, noted that the death of Adebayo was a colossal loss to the country.
The speaker described the death of Gen. Adebayo as the end of a glorious era for the country. He said the late Adebayo was a courageous and dependable soldier, who dedicated his life to the course of Nigerian.
“He was an illustrious son of Ekiti state. “He was an elder statesman, whose counsel would be missed at this crucial time in the history of our nation,” Oluwawole said.
