The recently impeached and embattled President of National Association of Nigeria Students-NANS, Mr. Danielson Bamidele Akpan, was few days ago arraigned for investigation at the Nigeria Police Force CID, FCT Command in Abuja.
On commencement of investigation, at the Nigeria Police Headquarters in Abuja, Danielson who had initially wanted to deny the charges, later succumbed after evidence of transaction and documents where presented to the Police. He therefore admitted the charges of embezzling funds provided by Governments and private organizations to support struggling Nigeria students. He however confessed the peculation of 18million naira Bayelsa state support funds, meant to leverage and provide 10000 glo CUG lines to Bayelsa state Students, a 200 thousand dollars intervention fund provided to the association to support awareness projects, interventions as Covid19 palliatives and for other basic activities of NANS.
Reports have confirmed that though, the sacked President has been granted bail, further investigations is yet ongoing to uncover and recover the funds which Danielson Bamidele Akpan embezzled. The leadership and tenure of the sacked President was so far marred with several controversies and alleged corruption cases.
The expelled President is under further investigated for misappropriation, diversion and peculation of funds belonging to the Association, fraudulently concealing information relevant to help the growth of the association, abusing the office of the President of NANS and violating the code of conduct guiding the Association.
Speaking yesterday after a well attended past NANS leaders forum meeting, one of its Members told our Correspondent that the decision of the Senate of the National Association of Nigerian Students to sack Bamidele Akpan will serve as warning to other Leaders, stressing that no one is above the law.
In a reaction from the newly appointed President of NANS, Comrade Chidi Ilogede, the former VP of the Association, he commended the committee which was set up to investigate the activities of the Bamidele, the expelled NANS President and thanked the Senate for the resolute decision taken, stating that it will define a new place of development in the association and thereafter ensure discipline and accountability of leaders.
