Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) has organized a writing competition for Almajiris, students undergoing Islamic Religious knowledge, in the state capital Damaturu.
The Almajiris, numbering about 50, also participated in other competitions, including sack race, egg race, fastest Suratul Fatiha writter and fast food eaters among others.
Each winner went home with cash donations of N20,000.Others gets N10,000 and N5000 depending on position and games.
All the participants also received students wooden-writing items, blankets, headwarmer and a cardigan.
According to Dr. Mohammed Goje, YOSEMA executive secretary, this year’s event is special as it recognizes the resilience of vulnerable people in the society.
The event also recognizes impactful individuals in the organization and volunteers, who were awarded for their excellent services.
“As we bid farewell to an impactful year, the YOSEMA proudly presents a special event that celebrates excellence, community impact, and togetherness. This year’s celebration is extra special as we highlight the “Beyond Emergency Response: Put a Smile on the Face of Almajiris” project, aimed at extending warmth and care to vulnerable Almajiri children during the cold winter season,” Goje explained.
The awardees are recognized for their punctuality, patience, perseverance, and consistent results.
Some of the award categories are:
1. Outstanding Staff of the Year 2024 – Category 1: Musa Yunusa Mazawun
2. Outstanding Staff of the Year 2024 – Category 2: Mallam Gambo Halluru
3. LEMC Focal Person of the Year: Ahmed Haruna Daya PKM LGA
4. Best Volunteer of the Year: Mohammed Jambo
5. Best Corps Member: Tamar Adamu
6. Outstanding CDO of the Year (Nguru): Usman Ibrahim Dan Yaro
7. Outstanding Beneficiary Award (Returning Excess Cash): Amina Adamu Mafa (Tarmuwa LGA)
8. Outstanding Beneficiary Award (Returning Excess Food Items): Idriss Mohamed Bomoi
9. Best Supporting Staff from Line MDAs: Hajiya Hauwa Sani (DPRS, MHADM)
10. Outstanding Rescue Mission Team: Abubakar Kachallah Zaid
At the gathering, Dr. Goje noted that “this gathering reflects the dedication and compassion of all those who have contributed to YOSEMA’s mission throughout the year. Together, we’re making a difference!
He also thanked guests that grace the occasion and appreciated their support for the success of YOSEMA and its mandate.
A novelty football match was also organized between the agency’s staffs and volunteers, aimed at creating a friendly synergy and developing teamwork between the two parties.
