Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised former Rivers State Governor and former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, over his recent claim that the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu contributed to the death of his mother.
Wike, speaking on Saturday, questioned how Amaechi could claim that he was unable to afford his late mother’s medication while also pointing to the properties he said the former governor owns in Old Government Reserved Area (GRA), Rivers State, and Abuja.
“Look at the house you are living in Old GRA, look at the house you are living in Abuja, and then you said you were unable to buy drugs and that’s why your mother died.
“Enough of this kind of embarrassment. Instead of me having this kind of child, may I be childless.” Wike said.
Wike and Amaechi, who were once political allies in Rivers State, have been engaged in a prolonged political dispute, with both men repeatedly exchanging criticisms over their respective records in government.
Amaechi had, during an interview on Channels Television’s, alleged that the rising cost of medicines under the Tinubu administration made it difficult for him to provide the drugs his mother needed.
“Before Tinubu came, my mother was healthy. Suddenly, by the time Tinubu came, it was difficult to buy drugs for my mother,” Amaechi said.
Amaechi, who is the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, said he believed the administration’s economic policies had worsened the financial burden on families, particularly through increased healthcare and medicine costs.
