Manchester United’s main sponsor, Adidas, have reportedly approved Mason Greenwood’s return, with the forward preparing to resume his career during the 2023-24 campaign.
Greenwood has not featured for the Red Devils since January 2022, as he had been facing serious criminal charges following accusations from a woman.
The 21-year-old was initially arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.
The forward was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the charges against him have been dropped, and he is preparing to resume his career in the coming season.
Man United are not expected to release him despite rumours earlier this year, while a permanent sale is thought to be highly unlikely, with the club thought to be looking to keep hold of him.
A loan move to a foreign club for the 2023-24 campaign is widely expected to happen, with a number of teams from Italy believed to have expressed an interest in his services.
Man United head coach Erik ten Hag recently said that it will be up to the club to make a final decision on Greenwood, but he has offered his opinion on the situation.
According to The Sun, Adidas, who are the club’s main sponsor, have approved Greenwood’s return.
The report claims that ‘secret talks’ are currently taking place, and they have been ‘positive’, with a final decision from the club expected to be made before the start of the new Premier League season.
Greenwood has recently been pictured training alone, but it is alleged that the club are ‘keeping in touch’, and the forward is keen to continue his career at Old Trafford.
Roma, Atalanta BC, Juventus and AC Milan are among the Italian teams believed to have been in touch with Man United to discuss a possible loan deal for next season.
Greenwood has another two years left to run on his contract at Old Trafford, with the option of a further 12 months, meaning that the club are in a strong position when it comes to his future.
The England international has scored 35 goals and registered 12 assists in 129 appearances for Man United in all competitions, including 22 goals and four assists in 83 Premier League outings.
