Former Arsenal player, Paul Merson, has advised Manchester United to consider hiring Arsene Wenger, if they sack Jose Mourinho as manager.
According to him, the Gunners boss would be an ideal replacement for Mourinho.
Wenger’s 22-year career at Arsenal ended in May and the Frenchman has stated he is not retiring from management.
Mourinho’s position remains in major doubt, despite the 3-2 comeback win against Newcastle on Saturday at Old Trafford.
While Merson believes he shouldn’t be dismissed, he feels Wenger is the right man if United do send Mourinho packing.
“Seriously, that’s not the worst idea in the world. You’ve got to look at what Wenger did.
“You don’t have to go out and buy £70m and £80m players with some of the gems he’s got over time.
“It’s not a bad shout. Sometimes you just need a fresh start,” Merson told Sky Sports.
