Vice Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Prof. Luke Anike, has warned newly-admitted students to shun all vices on campus, especially examination malpractices and cultism.

Prof. Anike, who gave out the warning during the 36th matriculation ceremony of the university, said that “the management of the university has zero tolerance for indiscipline and cultism.”

He told the fresh students that the vices have grave consequences such as expulsion and criminal prosecution.

“The university will not condone actions which contravene the university regulations or behaviours that portray the image of the university in a bad light,” he said.

The vice chancellor also warned the students of impersonation at examinations, which consequences he also said include expulsion and possible prosecution, saying that to stem the ugly situation, the university has adopted a biometric data capturing of all students at examination halls.

“For your own interest, carefully read all regulations guiding the conduct of examinations here in ESUT because the rules would be applied to the letter,” he said, adding that they should not be found wanting.

He told the 6,448 fresh students who were offered provisional admission into the university to count themselves privileged, urging them to pay attention to their mission and make real efforts to accomplish their objectives by taking their studies seriously.

The vice chancellor said that the university was committed to actively encouraging them through the award of university scholarships to enable them graduate in flying colours and impact meaningfully on the society.

He pointed out that such scholarships would be awarded to students who make a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.50 in a session, adding that such students could also retain the scholarships and study freely until they graduate if they maintained up to 4.0 CGPA in their subsequent years of study.
