The European-American University has disowned an alleged honorary doctorate degree conferred on Hausa musician, Dauda Kahuta Rarara, describing the award as fraudulent.
The ceremony held at NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja, was attended by dignitaries including Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda.
In a statement on its official website, the University said it never authorized the event or conferred any degree on Rarara or others mentioned as recipients.
“The University has not authorized any convocation to be held in this location today, and this event has been organized fraudulently without the knowledge or consent of the University”, the statement read.
It identified individuals who paraded themselves as its officials, including Musani Audu Ishaku and Idris Aliyu as having no legal authority to represent the institution.
The University further clarified that its current Vice Chancellor is Professor Luca Scotto di Tella, not Dr. Josephine Egbuta, who was dismissed earlier this year.
It vowed to involve Nigerian authorities to take action against those behind the fake convocation.
The University also dismissed claims about being based in Dominica and Panama, stating it is legally registered in France and holds Royal Charter of Incorporation from Kingdom of Bunyoro -Kitara in Uganda.
It added added that it would be contacting Nigerian authorities to take action against those behind the fraudulent convocation.
