Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah has revealed that some former members of the National Assembly are currently facing financial hardship.
The former senator made the disclosure during an exclusive interview with Trust TV, aired on Tuesday.
According to him, many are unable to afford their children’s school fees just a year after leaving office.
He noted that contrary to public perception, life after public office is not always financially secure for lawmakers.
“I can tell you without mincing words that some former senators and members of the House of Representatives cannot afford to pay their children’s school fees, even just one year after leaving office,” he said.
Na’Allah emphasized the need for a national conversation about the welfare of public officeholders after service, stressing that the financial decline experienced by some former lawmakers poses broader implications for public service motivation and integrity.
He, however, clarified that the current economic struggles are not necessarily a result of mismanagement, but rather due to the lack of structured post-service support and reintegration mechanisms.
