In a historic moment marking the dawn of a new era for over 52 communities, Hon. Afolabi Moruf Afuape officially flagged off the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Idi-Aba/Olokuta-Laderin Road project, ushering in hopes of improved infrastructure, enhanced economic opportunities, and better living standards for the people of Abeokuta South Federal Constituency.
The event, which took place on January 4, 2025, at the Olokuta Community open space, was attended by an enthusiastic crowd of community leaders, residents, and representatives of Community Development Associations (CDAs). Comrade Tunde Folarin, Chairman of the Joint Action Committee for Olokuta and Idi-Aba, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the communities, highlighting the critical need for the road reconstruction. “This road has been a source of immense distress to us, claiming lives and causing untold hardship. Today, we celebrate because Hon. Afuape has wiped away our tears,” he said.
Comrade Olusola Adeosun, Chairman of the New Erunwon CDA, praised Hon. Afuape for prioritizing the welfare of his constituents, assuring him of the communities’ unflinching support for his future political aspirations. Chief Ganiyu Abass (Elewedu), Baale of Erunwon-Laloko, and other community leaders echoed these sentiments in their goodwill messages.
The construction engineer representing Gosima Group of Companies appealed to Hon. Afuape to ensure the completion of the entire stretch of the 2.6 kilometres road, rather than limiting the work to the 600 meters currently under construction. Hon. Afuape reassured the communities of his commitment to their development, emphasizing that his priority is delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Abeokuta South Federal Constituency.
The ceremony was graced by several prominent personalities, including Alhaji M.A. Kazeem, the Ekerin of Oke-Ona Egbaland, and Hon. Adeniyi Edun (Oniro), APC leader in Abeokuta South local government. The event concluded with Chief Ifaseun Akiode delivering a vote of thanks, extolling Hon. Afuape for his visionary leadership and dedication to the people of Abeokuta South Federal Constituency.
