U.S President Donald Trump has called for a nationwide ban on gender transition procedures for minors, reaffirming his administration’s stance against such treatments.
The call was made on 4, March 2025, during a joint session of Congress, where President Trump emphasized that children are “perfect exactly the way God made” them, urging lawmakers to criminalize these medical interventions.
“We must permanently ban and criminalize the mutilation of our children.
“No child should be subjected to these dangerous and life-altering procedures.” President Trump declared.
The U.S President position align with previous actions taken by his administration, including the signing of Executive Order 14187, titled ”Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation,” on January 28, 2025.
The order aims to restrict gender-affirming care for individuals under 19 by withholding federal funding from healthcare providers offering such treatments.
The executive order, however, sparked legal challenges, with advocacy groups and families of transgender children filing lawsuits, leading a federal judge to issue a temporary restraining order preventing the immediate enforcement of funding restrictions.
Despite this, Trump’s administration continues to push for legislative measures to make gender transition procedures for minors illegal nationwide.
Supporters of the president’s position argue that such procedures are experimental and could have long-term consequences for children.
However, critics, including LGBTQ+ rights organizations and major medical associations, contend that the ban would deprive transgender youth of necessary medical care and infringe on parental rights.
President Trump’s call for a federal ban seems very likely, with Republican-led states already enacting similar restrictions at the state level.
