A group, Team South-West Progressives has accused some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) caretaker committee and extraordinary national convention of extorting unsuspecting party members and Aspirants.
The group made the revelations following series of complaints from individuals who have been swindled of their hard earned money with promises that were never kept .
According to the group, members of the Caretaker Committee were using their positions to enrich themselves at the detriment of the party, thereby causing unnecessary crisis across the states.
The group in a statement signed by its Director General, Prince Kolapo Ayodele, Wednesday , urged the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Mai Mala Buni to react on the allegation if he is aware of it or allow the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate the matter.
They said the compromised party officials should be queried for destabilizing the party ahead of 2023 general elections through their greed and corrupt actions.
“Buni should investigate his men especially one Muri Yakubu who has been duping people in multiple figures . If Buni claims he is not aware of the massive corruption happening within the APC then he is a full accomplice. These people through Yakubu Muri collected over $890,000 from an aspirant in the Ekiti state APC primary election but failed to fulfill the terms . They also swindled collected about two million dollars from Senator Andy Uba during the Anambra governorship election. They promised to make him the governor at all cost; what happened after the election?
“These same people headed by Yakubu Muri also collected money in dollars from chairmanship aspirants in the last state congress and failed to deliver those they took money from . They have turned APC ticket to a cash out venture which is worse than yahoo yahoo.
“These people are worse than tax collectors. We are calling on Buni to tell Nigerians if he is aware of this massive corruption. If he claims not to be aware of it, it is pertinent to allow EFCC do their job by investigating the activities of the Caretaker Committee members.
“We are aware that these people also duped aspiring members of the NWC which contributed to the postponement of the national convention. We are alerting Nigerians to know that APC is not save under the watch of the Buni’s Caretaker Committee members. They are using their positions to Intimidate party members, extort from them and disappoint them during and after the election.
“We are calling on leaders of the party including President Muhammadu Buhari, Governors, past Governors and other Stakeholders to intervene by carefully scrutinizing the activities of the Caretaker Committee members,” the group said.
