Facebook Romance Scam lands 3 Nigerians in Thai Police custody

9News Nigeria (Chiang Mai) Thailand police department in Chiang Mai province has carried out a raid early this morning arresting 3 Nigerians allegedly for Internet Love Scam related incidents.

According to the press briefing by Police deputy chief, Lieutenant Colonel Surachet Pojab, the law enforcement agents have monitored and tracked the activities of the alleged persons since July 2017. The alleged persons, the police said, used social media services like Facebook to woo their victims using captivating profiles. After engaging the victims in what seemed like a romantic relationship, the victims would be asked to pay money in order to received goods sent over to them.

The police chief further disclosed that the arrested persons were involved in a love scam network and have deceived both Thai citizens and foreigners using the same style of Romance Scam.

Following tip off, at about 1:00 AM on April 12th, the police team waded in and nabbed the accused persons after receiving a warrant of arrest from Chiang Mai Provincial Court. No. 211-213 / 2561, dated April 9, 2018.

Those arrested were 3 Nigerians, 39 years old Andrew Elvis Ezeh, Uzo Chukwu and 41 years old Jeromee Eneez

During the arrest, Thai police also impounded 1 computer, 4 mobile phone, bank passbook, 23 ATM cards, 20 Thai baht bills, 715,000 Thai baht in cash, 4,000 Nigerian Naira also in cash.

The arrested persons were detained pending further investigations and court charges.
