Officials from the Federal Capital Territory Administration, under the leadership of the Minister Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have sealed the National Headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party, in Wise, Abuja on Monday.
9News Nigeria reports that officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Monday sealed the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) located in Wuse, Abuja, over alleged failure to pay ground rent.
The action was carried out by the FCTA Department of Development Control as part of a wider enforcement initiative targeting property owners in Abuja who have defaulted on ground rent payments.
9News Nigeria Abuja correspondent gathered that the PDP secretariat, known as Wadata Plaza, is said to have accrued over N7.6 million in unpaid ground rent over a period spanning approximately 28 years. The FCTA had earlier revoked the party’s land title in March 2025, citing consistent non-payment of annual charges from 2006 to 2025.

Despite the revocation of the land title, the property remained in use by the party until enforcement officers moved in to seal it. The FCTA has launched a comprehensive effort to recover outstanding rent and reclaim government-owned land from defaulting occupants.
In addition to the PDP headquarters, other commercial and institutional buildings in Abuja—including those used by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Access Bank, and a fuel station—were also sealed in a similar operation.
The Peoples Democratic Party has criticized the move, describing it as a politically motivated attempt to weaken opposition. The party has indicated its intention to challenge the decision through legal channels.
The FCTA’s enforcement drive is expected to continue in the coming days, with more properties identified for action over rent-related infractions.
