The Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced a major protest.
The protest, which began on June 30 and is scheduled to continue through July 2, saw workers troop out en masse carrying placards with bold messages such as “Enough is Enough” and “Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta.”
JUAC’s demands, outlined in a strongly-worded protest notice, highlight several issues plaguing the FCT workforce.
Chief among them is the lack of staff promotions for the years 2023, 2024, and 2025, an anomaly the union describes as a deliberate stifling of career progression.
In a significant move, JUAC has also called for the removal of the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, citing failed leadership and persistent administrative bottlenecks.
The union further condemned the continued appointment of “overseeing directors” in critical positions, which they argue undermines institutional transparency and meritocracy.
Other key grievances include: Non-payment of five months’ wage awards, Unpaid AEPB enforcement squad salaries, Inaccessibility of the salary portal to salary desk officers, Absence of overhead allocations since December 2024, Forced NHF (National Housing Fund) deductions without benefit, Lack of staff training and retraining across FCTA departments and Closure of FCT primary schools due to ongoing disputes
The union is also demanding the domestication of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) to ensure better control and accountability over personnel data and salary management within the territory.
JUAC’s leadership has vowed to continue the protest until the FCTA authorities address their concerns decisively.
Workers at the scene of the protest told journalists that morale is at an all-time low and described the situation as “unsustainable and unjust.”
