The Federal Government of Nigeria is seriously working with the Nigerian Embassy in Malaysia to facilitate the evacuation of hundreds of Nigerians who are stranded in Malaysia.
The plan was revealed yesterday by the Foreign Affairs Minister @NigeriaMFA, Geoffrey Onyeama @GeoffreyOnyeama. Mr. Onyeama had said via his twitter timeline that they will get contact with the Nigerian Embassy in Malaysia to confirm the evacuation plan.
The Foreign Affairs Minister twitted: “in regards to the 13,000 students in Malaysia under threat of deportation presumably over staying their visas,”
“we have not in @NigeriaMFA gotten any such information. Ordinarily, if such a thing were to be considered, the Embassy in Malaysia would have informed us and we would have engaged with the Malaysian Government in respect of that.”
“The global practice at the moment is that every country knows that the airspace has been closed around the world and there are people in these countries who might be forced to overstay the duration of their visas.”
“But i will get in touch with our Embassy in Malaysia to verify if the story is indeed the case.”

A Nigerian student in Malaysia had send an SOS message to Mr. Onyeama beckoning on the Federal Government to assist in evacuating many Nigerians stranded in Malaysia.
The student whose name as shown on his twitter handle was Abba kaumi @KaumiAbba said that he was one of the Nigerian students stranded in Malaysia and that they would appreciate the government if they consider evacuating them from Malaysia in the next phase of the evacuation exercise.
“we will appreciate if government consider evacuating us in the next phase of the evacuation exercise.” he wrote.
The Federal Government has been lauded for their embarkments in safeguarding and evacuating Nigerians in diaspora who were stranded in foreign countries due to the Covid-19 pandemic and other visa related issues.
Recently, hundreds of Nigerians have been evacuated back to Nigeria from DUBAI, UK, USA and SAUDI ARABIA. This is a proof of the government’s commitment to ensure that Nigerians in diaspora willing to return home could utilise this opportunity to make it home.
