The House of Representatives has condemned the Tuesday killings of peaceful and unarmed protesters by suspected Security Operatives at Lekki Toll Gate and other parts of the country in the course of their protest against SARS and bad governance.

Though this statement came through its minority caucus, the lawmakers, in a statement signed by the Minority Leader of the House, Ndudi Elumelu, said such wicked act of extra-judicial killings of defenseless citizens by suspected Agents of the State cannot be justified or condoned under any rule or guise whatsoever.

The Lawmakers noted that as representatives of the people, they cannot accept the gruesome killing of defenseless youths in their own Father Land by Security Operatives.

Also added was that such brazen heartless and defilement of right to life, which is at the center of the on-going protests across the nation, underscores the demand for an immediate and total overhaul of Nigeria’s Security build up.

They however called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately order the arrest and prosecution of officers involved in the Lekki killings as well as the withdrawal of soldiers from engaging protesters.

The Caucus restated its call on President Buhari to urgently rejig the Nation’s Security Architecture through extensive reforms and urgent replacement of the Service Chiefs with more competent and professional hands to effectively handle the security challenges confronting the Nation.

In their hounarable manner the caucus also commiserates with the Families of the victims of the Heinous Act and assured of immediate Legislative actions that will ensure that Justice is done.

Recall that Reps had earlier proposed to hold public hearings across Nigeria; summon IGP over alleged FSARS brutality.
