The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) on Friday matriculated 9,097 students into its various faculties for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, the Vice Chancellor of the university, charged the newly admitted students to remain focused and diligent in the pursuit of academic excellence.

Akinwumi disclosed that the students were admitted after successfully meeting the requirements of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations as well as the university’s screening exercise.

He advised the matriculants to remain focused on the purpose of their admission, stressing that university education was meant to prepare them for future responsibilities.

“Have a vision and set goals, pursue them with diligence. Remain focused on why you are here; to learn, to grow, and to prepare for the future.

“Do not be an NFA — No Future Ambition student. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.

“Remember that the future belongs to those who prepare for it today. Your future begins here and now,” he said.

The vice chancellor encouraged the students to participate actively in sporting and recreational activities, in addition to academics, to enhance their physical well-being and holistic development.

He also admonished them to respect their colleagues and all members of staff of the university, noting that mutual respect would make their stay peaceful, productive and fulfilling.

Akinwumi further urged the students to appreciate the sacrifices made by their parents and guardians to support their education, warning them to shun all forms of deviant behaviour and social vices.

He congratulated the matriculants, their parents and guardians, and wished them a disciplined, rewarding and successful academic journey at the institution.
