President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has listed Nigeria’s ageing Boeing 737-700 Business Jet (BBJ) for sale in Switzerland following its replacement by a newly acquired Airbus A330-220 for presidential use.

The Boeing 737-700 Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) originally purchased in 2005 during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration is currently undergoing inspections at AMAC Aerospace, Basel, according to public listings on Controller, a global aircraft sales platform.

The 20-year-old presidential aircraft, was acquired for $43 million in 2005, during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure, is being sold months after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu transitioned to a refurbished Airbus A330-220 last August amid economic concerns and public scrutiny.

The aircraft had served as the principal presidential jet under successive Nigerians administrations until President Tinubu acquired a new Airbus A330 due to the former aircraft suffering a malfunction during one of Tinubu’s trips to Saudi Arabia.

The aircraft, which was logged just under 4,000 flight hours and 1,881 landings, served as the primary aircraft for Nigeria Presidents for nearly two decades.

In July 2024 Nigeria took delivery of refurbished Airbus ACJ-330-200, now registered as 5N-FGA, which includes presidential suite, office, and mixed first-class and economy seating.
