FG set to support over 6000 farmers affected by flood in Yobe

National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has commence enumeration of over 6000 farmers affected by flood last year in Yobe state for intervention packages.

The flaggoff exercise, which is in collaboration with Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, YOSEMA, was led by Wagami Lydia, NEMA North East Zonal coordinator on Thursday.

According to a release by YOSEMA on Friday, their involvement is following a directive by the state governor, Mai Mala Buni, so as to ensure genuine farmers are enrolled in the program.

The release added that, YOSEMA had earlier send a report to NEMA and after subsequent validation before they came forward to rollout the enumeration of the affected farmers.

Farmer in Yobe state had witness poor harvest last year due to the effect of flooding and other natural disasters. Reports had shown that, it is one of the most hit state by flood in 2020.

After the enumeration, each farmer is expected to receive improved seed, chemicals, Napsack Sprayers and fertilizer.

Dr. Mohammed Goje, YOSEMA executive secretary had during the falgoff assured NEMA team that, his agency would ensure value for project, accountability and real beneficiaries are captured.

Hajja kolo Isa, one of the beneficiaries said in her remarks that, ‘since government people came and write our names, I didn’t see them again, I have even loss hope, but am suprised to hear my Bulama (a traditional head of a community) asking me to come and be enumerated.’ She also prayed for the success of the government.

The exercise have in attendance representatives of NAIC and ADP among other development partners.
