Some communities in Borno State’s capital, Maiduguri, have been affected by River Flooding while others are facing threat due to excessive water floor.

The communities are mostly situation around a popular river that crossed through the city.

This was following the breaking of some part of Alao Dam, a large water reservoir that feeds the river from it’s access water.

Constructed in 1984-86, the dam is situated in the Alau community of Konduga local government area of Borno State in the Northeast region of Nigeria.

It impounds a major reservoir on the Ngadda River, one of the tributaries of the Lake Chad.

The collapse of the dam is due to consistent heavy downpour experienced in Maiduguri and other parts of the state.

The collapse has resulted in significant damage to surrounding farmlands and communities, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

The flood caused by the incident has displaced numerous people, forcing them to flee their homes in search of safety.

The full extent of the damage is still unknown to this reporter, but residents from Dalori and Fori communities indicated that it was due to the heavy rainfall, noting that the situation is dire.

People in communities within the city like Gwange, Sabon Gari, Lagos Bridge have expressed panick as the water under the bridge keeps increasing unusually, threatening their habitat.

The water have already submerged some parts of Sabon Gari, Gwange and few buildings in Fori, Galtimari and Aji-alari communities as at time of this report.

However, there is no official statement yet from the government or any institutions with regards to the incident at the time of filling this report.

Similarly, there is no report of any lost of lives yet.
