The Nigeria Police Force says companies and individuals, which include foreigners, are involved in the illegal bunkering of crude oil in the country.

Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi made the revelation in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday.

He said the foreigners were named by 40 oil thieves who were arrested and subjected to preliminary investigation over their involvement in economic sabotage in the Niger Delta.

Adejobi said a joint team of the police, military, and other security agencies had intercepted two vessels transporting stolen crude oil at the Ogbogoro Oil Field, Brass Area, and Ekeni Area of Southern-Ijaw in Bayelsa State.

“The efforts led to the arrest of 40 suspected individuals and recovery of two vessels in two different interceptions at the Ogbogoro Oil Field, Brass Area, and Ekeni Area of Southern-Ijaw in Bayelsa State, for conspiracy, tampering with an oil pipeline, illegal transportation of crude oil, dealing in crude and storing same without lawful authority or appropriate license amongst others.

“They will be arraigned in court to face charges related to economic sabotage and oil theft which have been filed.
