A former governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed popularly known as Aisha Binani, has officially deflected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in a move that signals shifting political alliances ahead of 2027 general elections.
Binani, a prominent figure in Adamawa politics and former Senator, made the switch amid increasing political consultations and realignments across party lines.
Speaking during her formal defection on Friday May 1, 2026 in Abuja into the party, Binani stressed that her decision followed thorough review of the NDC’s constitution, which she noted reflects a strong commitment to structured, policy-driven governance.
According to her, the decision to join the NDC as largely influenced by her supporters, who had already begun mobilizing within the party prior to her official defection, just as revealed that Adamawa State now ranks among the states with the highest number of registered NDC members, attributing the development to engagement and sustained mobilization.
Binani who expressed appreciation to the party’s leadership for welcoming her and and her supporters, pledging to contribute meaningfully to the party’s growth at both state and national levels, also underscores the importance of fairness, equity, justice, transparency, and internal democracy as essential pillars for the party’s long-term success.
Her defection is expected to influence the political landscape in the state, where preparations for the next election cycle are already gaining momentum.
The development comes at a time when several politicians across the country are reassessing their positions and exploring new platforms in anticipation of the 2027 polls.
