Former United States first lady, Michelle Obama has opened up on the racist attack she endured during her husband’s regime.
While making referring to being called an ape and people talking about her buttocks, she urged women to seize their power and not hide their scars.
Mrs Obama was speaking at the Women’s Foundation of Colorado’s 30th anniversary on Tuesday.
While responding to the question by WFCO President and CEO Lauren Casteel on which of the falling glass shards cut the deepest, she said, “The shards that cut me the deepest were the ones that intended to cut. Knowing that after eight years of working really hard for this country, there are still people who won’t see me for what I am because of my skin color.”
She said she can’t pretend like it doesn’t hurt because it let those doing the viciousness off the hook.
Michelle also revealed that she would not be seeking public office, although she and Barack Obama intend to stay in public service.
She said, “Women, we endure those cuts in so many ways that we don’t even notice we’re cut.”
“We are living with small tiny cuts, and we are bleeding every single day. And we’re still getting up.”
