… Ngbo leaders, Christian body urge him to remain faithful to God
‘I’m mindful of my background, won’t disappoint Ebonyians’- Amb. Ominyi
Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. David Umahi yesterday, lauded the Nigerian Ambassador to Zambia, Nwanne Ominyi as a principled and smart politician whose unique potentials will launch the State and the nation on a global limelight.
The Governor who made the remarks when he presented the Ambassador to members of the State’s Executive Council at a parley in the executive chambers of the old Government House, Abakaliki urged him to remain faithful and consistent in projecting Nigeria to the rest of the world, noting that politicians only fight because politics is their only means of survival.
He said the people’s over-dependence on politics as a means of livelihood was because most politicians in the State had no other job than politics. “This has made the battle of politics in the State fierce but we are doing everything within our powers to change the narrative. We can no longer depend on the government and allocation from the Federation Account for survival”, he added.
He also appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing the Ebonyi son as Nigeria’s Ambassador and asked for the co-operation, unity and understanding of all Ebonyians to ensure he succeeds in his new assignment.
Similarly, a former Governor of the State, Dr. Sam Egwu has expressed optimism that Nigeria’s new envoy to Zambia has all it takes to deliver on the tasks ahead of him.
He made this known when he equally hosted the envoy to a dinner which held amidst glitz took place at his Umuebe country home with many members of his Executive Council in attendance.
Egwu, under whose administration as the first Executive Governor of the State the Ambassador served as one of his closest aides said the appointment has indeed united Ebonyi politicians across Party lines and interests.
“Whether in the same political Party or not, God has brought us together as one family. And irrespective of the Party you belong, remember that you are an Ebonyi man. And what is good and has come for one person, whether he belongs to another Party or not, you should also rejoice that it has come to that person. That is the spirit I have always preached and that is the spirit I will continue to preach”, he maintained.
Egwu, who is a Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial zone, disclosed that the new envoy is someone that has remained very close to him right from when he (Egwu) was a Lecturer in the University.
“And that was why when I became a Governor; I immediately said he must come with me. And he showed complete loyalty and support. Of course, we all know the parts he played. From that period till I left office, you all know his activities and that my administration cannot be mentioned without him because he was everywhere. Even though he had some titles, he played a role more than that title because there are certain things that if you don’t see him (Nwannebuike) it will not happen”, he concluded, asserting that it was only God working through men that made the appointment possible.
Meanwhile, the leadership of Ngboejiogu through Ngbo Christian Union had earlier dedicated their illustrious son and Nigeria’s Ambassador to Zambia to the almighty God, beseeching him to go with God, stay with Him and return back with Him.
At the ceremony which held in the country home of Late Icha Ituma who was incidentally an Ambassador under whose tutelage and cup of political wisdom the new envoy drank from attracted many sons and daughters of the community including clergies, politicians, traders and academics.
In a homily, the Bishop of Methodist Church, Abakaliki, Rev. Paul Onwe and other speakers who took turns to exalt God almighty for his faithfulness upon the land admonished the new envoy to learn from the Biblical encounters of Queen Esther who while in the king’s palace used her position to redeem her people from destruction.
Before officially offering prayers dedicating him to God almighty, Onwe said the Ambassador must always remember that his appointment is tenured and therefore must make the best use of it.
In his remarks at the tripartite ceremonies, the Ambassador expressed joy towards the grandiose honours and receptions he has received from stakeholders and people of the State in general and reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the opportunity given to him to serve the nation will be maximally utilized for the overall benefit of the people.
“I am very mindful of the peculiarities of our people and I want to assure every Ebonyian that I will not disappoint them. Zambia is a very calm and peaceful nation with lots of opportunities that Nigerians can invest and tap into. I therefore urge all of us to feel free to invest in the country”, he concluded.
