Gov. Zulum Calls On Government To Prioritize Youth Development

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagano Umara Zulu, has emphasized the need for governments to prioritize youth development through skills acquisition programs, educational opportunities, and scholarship schemes.

He said this on Thursday while speaking at the National Council on Youths Meeting in Maiduguri.

He emphasized that the youth most be seen as leaders of tomorrow that require support to fulfill their potentials.

He highlighted the potential of Nigeria’s youth population, noting that 70% of the country’s population are under the age of 30.

His administration, he said, has shown commitment to youth empowerment since 2019, despite the challenges posed by the Boko Haram insurgency.

He added that the government has implemented initiatives, including training skills programs, education, scholarships, and support programs.

In his remarks, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, commended Governor Zulu’s efforts and called on other state governors to follow his lead in supporting youth development.

Similarly, the state Commissioner for Youths, Sports, and Poverty Alleviation, Saina Buba, also highlighted Governor Zulu’s efforts in youth development, citing the establishment of skills acquisition centers and sponsorship of students on scholarships.

The event also saw the National Youth Workers Association decorate Governor Zulu with an award and rename its headquarters after him.
