The strawberry Pop is being carried about by it’s peddlers across Imo primary and secondary schools as confirmed by the special drug team this Tuesday afternoon.

The narcotics and illicit drug monitoring team of Imo state government has this Tuesday discovered the strawberry sold in schools as common candy Pop.

This alarm was raised by Imo Drug specialists team who on a tip off, dictated the pop in some schools where it is sold freely as children pop and children rush it with ease without knowing the harmful and dangerous effect of such Pop to the health of children as 9News Nigeria reports.

Recall that crystal meth called Mkpuru mmiri, has been rampant across all states of the federal and Federal Government has placed ban on the product. Crystal Meth is proven to be a crystal substance being sold by its peddlers to smokers across the hinterlands. This drug is termed “illicit” because of its proven harmful tendencies to human health.

Team Narcotics and Illicit Drug Monitoring Imo state government (IMSG), led by SA Hon Chief Ezechukwu pleaded with media houses to circulate this information as a matter of importance and safety to Imolites and Nigeria at large.

In his words, “Please pass this around. Parents should know about this drug. It is known as “STRAWBERRY QUICK”

“A very scary thing is going on now in most schools, which we all need to be aware of. This drug is a type of Crystal Meth (Mkpuru Mmiri).

“It looks like strawberry pop rocks (the candy that sizzles and ‘pops’ in your mouth). It also smells like strawberry, and it is being handed out to kids in schools.

“Kids are taking it thinking it’s candy.

“It also comes in form of a chocolate, peanut butter, cola, cherry, grape, and orange just to avoid recognition.

“Please instruct your children not to accept candy from strangers and even not to accept candy that looks like this from a friend (who may have been given it and believed it is candy).

Let us all join hands to raise awareness about this, Hon Chief Ezechukwu N Obonna, SA on Narcotics and Illicit Drug Monitoring (IMSG), raises alarm.

It is expected of the state branch of national orientation agency NOA, NDLEA, print and electronic Media, ministry of information and community public relations officers to strengthen it’s awareness and sensitisation.

The government is expected to place ban on this crystal meth and its affiliate products outrightly and introduce stringent measures to check its circulation and usage.
