The government of Akwa Ibom State has said that negotiation with the abattoirs and sensitization campaign will soon be embarked on by the state government to ban and discourage the killing, roasting, and preparing of meat using tyre across the state.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture Dr. Glory Edet stated these in a radio interview, declaring that the reason was based on the health implication to the consumers of such meat.

It has been predicted by experts that the use of tyres to burn meat brings adverse health conditions like liver, lung, kidney damage, cancer, gastrointestinal irritation due to the hazardous and toxic characteristics of these heavy metals.
