The Lagos state government is undergoing a police reform in the manner that has never been seen in the state before.
The state governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu released the information on the community policing reform via his official twitter account where he also announced the inauguration of the Community Policing Committee. He revealed that the current policing system has been inadequate for effective and productive policing.
He decried the current security situation in the state and said that Lagos state must take bold steps to ensure the security of lives and properties in the state.
He tweeted:
“We must take bold steps to ensure the security of lives and property in our state and as part of this mandate, I inaugurated the State Community Policing Advisory Committee and State Community Policing Committee as we implement overdue policing reforms tailored to our reality.”
Governor Sanwo Olu also assured Lagosians that with both committees in place, Lagos state will now have operational guidelines and procedures that will promote and sustain mutual trust, respect and confidence between the people and security agencies, and that will in turn make Lagos State safer for its residents.

Sanwo-Olu said lamented that the major inadequacy in the current policing system has been the inability to tap the knowledge and intelligence that exists at neighbourhood and community level.
