The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has sought for a collaboration into the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security with a view to boosting agricultural production in the state.
Sule made this known when he visited the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in Abuja.
The governor said he was at the ministry to consolidate on the already existing collaboration between the federal and the state governments towards ensuring food security.
“We are here from Nasarawan State because Nasarawa has been known in the area of agriculture and we believe that we can buy-in and participate in every thing that this ministry is doing”, Sule said.
He disclosed that presently, Nasarawa State is the largest producer of Sesame Seed in the country, second largest producer of Cassava and Yam and number five in Rice production in the country.
He used the opportunity of the visit to update the Minister on various agricultural initiatives in Nasarawa State, particularly commercial agriculture with industry giants like Olam Farms, Dangote Group, Nigeria Flour Mills and Azman Farms, among others.
In response the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, said the visit of Sule demostrated the collaboration that the ministry sought to achieve between the federal government and the state governments with a view to significantly boosting food production in the country.
The Minister expressed confidence that the synergy between the tiers of governments would more readily ensure positive outcomes in the nation’s quest for improved agricultural production.
