- RESORTS TO SELF HELP
On saturday morning dated 15- 5-2021, Umuoma Nekede Environmental/ Waste management Agency UEPA went out to work on the CONTINUED evacuation of refuse and control of waste disposal in their community.
This was made possible by the government representatives at the GRASSROOTS.
Our correspondent reports that the New Caretaker leadership led by the community president general PG UCHE NWANERI and his dedicated executives are seriously at work and ready to do more work despite all odds.
Recall that we have reported the inaugural version of the evacuation process few weeks ago having featured Owerri west LGA representatives, Nekede Ward 7 councilor, all the youths and women groups, residents and natives and the highly revered traditional ruler of the community HRH Eze Morrison Eke in attendance.
Umuoma Nekede Autonomous community is one of the most populous Community in Owerri West. The community is made up of five versed growing towns, namely; Umuezerokam, Umuagwu -na- Umude, Umuogba, Okwu and Umuikea.
This area is densely populated with both indigenes and strangers. The university/ Polythecnic students population, government workers, private business owners and non- indigene landlords living in this area have added to it’s rapid development.
Our source told us that because of its safety, harmony, peaceful coexistence and accomodating ambiance, the rush by land developers and business owners to Improve the area is second to none.
The prices of land in this area is affordable. There are alot of hotels, businesses, private and government establishments in the area our source revealed.
The New Caretaker leadership was not demoralized by the morning rain that soaked the land rather they continued the routine collection of refuse and fumigation of the community by the youths.
The Saturday morning rain could not stop the evacuation of refuse and continued fumigation work while the youths turned out en masse to support this recent development.
Some Business owners, Landlords and Residents met during the exercise spoke to us in their happy moods to appreciate the good work of Umuoma Town Union and call on Imo government to complete the construction of Poly/Nekede/ Ihiagwa road.
This is a commendable approach to get the community rid of waste and unapproved refuse dumps scattered all over the streets.
It is also a wake up call and challenge to every rural community in Imo state to join this noble trend to partner with the Government at the GRASSROOTS. More partners and sponsors will be accommodated to do more better work.
Meanwhile, 9News Nigeria went to the GRASSROOTS to ascertain the wonders of this community self based effort targeted to support the state government on their wonderful policy to make Imo state return to its cleanest status.
Umuoma Nekede Autonomous community have set this tempo and have promised to sustain it.#3R#
However, the bad condition of roads, health center, local bridges and community market in this area need emergency attention while calling on Imo state government under the leadership of H/E Governor Hope Uzodinma to cushion these Immediate challenges to gain the GRASSROOTS.
New Leadership! New narrative! Safe Environmental! Healthy living!
This release was signed by the community caretaker Honourable PRO.
