The State is set for the official flag off the ground breaking of the proposed Owerri Central Market by the Uzodinma’s 3R shared prosperity administration.
The ground breaking is scheduled to be flagged off by an Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo who has officially landed in Imo state and was received accordingly at the time of this report by 9News Nigeria.
In readiness to the upcoming groundbreaking event, Ex President Obasanjo alongside some other dignitaries have arrived the state this afternoon in preparation of the Friday’s engagement in the state as 9News Nigeria reports.
From all indications, Friday 21-06-2024, the ground breaking will be officially done and dusted as scheduled by the Imo government through the relevant ministry and agencies saddled with the responsibility of market establishment, trade and investment in the state.
Local organizing committee LOC Chairman, Rt Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi (Egbe) told Newsmen at the groundbreaking site in Owerri that preparatory work is going on in the site accordingly, involving all the sectors of workforce, ministries and agencies saddled with the responsibility of making the Owerri central market a reality under His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma.
At the welcoming of this wonderful project initiated by Imo State Government, Nekede landowners this thursday morning trooped out in their numbers and countered the allegedly stage-managed protest on wednesday 19th June at Government House gate Owerri by yet-to-identified persons whose target was to jeopardize the developmental projects and programs of government going on in the state.
9News Nigeria authoritatively report that the upcoming groundbreaking is a make up of Imo State government under 3R Shared Prosperity Administration and on this therefore there was no government official who came out to respond or even attended or address the protesters as falsely reported by some local tabloids and some online media space in the state.
The protesters that stormed Imo government House Wednesday was not attended to by any government official of the shared prosperity administration because the protest was falsely manipulated, ill arranged and illegally stage managed by the opposition of 3R administration as investigated by 9News.
Speaking with 9News Nigeria in Owerri the Chief Promoter of the central market project Nze Ozichukwu alongside the Chairman of the ground breaking event, Chief Kanayo Onyemaechi stated very clearly the actual position of the said Nekede land mapped out for the establishment of Owerri central market.
Some protesters who spoke to 9News behind the camera told our correspondent that the land belong to individuals not Umuohiadagu landowners. They however regretted the participation in such a stage-managed protest against such a developmental work coming to Imo state.
“Some of us acquired some landed property at the said land which was proposed for Owerri central market and we were organized to protest against the plan”
“Previous Rescue government through their agents have sold some parts of the land to us and we have to be clarified of the latest development of the area for such a development, protesters hinted.
Reacting to the rumours making the rounds that concerning the land grabbing and staged protest, office of the lawmaker Owerri West and the LOC Chairman of the groundbreaking event has refuted such statement stating that there was no libelous or false allegation raise by Chief Onyemaechi as claimed by some jolly triggered writers in the state who have been contracted to malign his high earned image and reputation.
Meanwhile, government has warned every protester (s) to stay clear of the site while the central market continues. The Umuohiadagu Nekede landowners and the people of Owerri West alongside their owerri municipal neighbours have jointly came out and countered the staged protest this Thursday morning while calling on Governor Hope Uzodinma’s administration to come and establish Owerri central market to develop their area.

However, the groundbreaking of the Central Market will be officially established Friday morning ,June 21, 2024 as scheduled by the local organizing committee ably chaired by Chief Kanayo Onyemaechi, member representing Ow West in the state House of Assembly.
Several experts that spoke to our correspondent hinted that the idea and feasibility research was thoroughly conceived by business experts in the Uzodinma led administration to improve the market hub of the state as 9News Nigeria reports.
The Owerri Central Market therefore is targetted at boosting the IGR of the state and bringing closer such a large market to the Imo residents and occupants of the area, Owerri people and Imo state at large.
In furtherance to this investigative reportage, there are green indications that the business is a done deal having attracted creme of personalities in the trade, commerce and Investment circle to the state for groundbreaking. It is expected of the parties involve in this wonderful market project to commence development without further delay to create more employment opportunities for the teeming Imolites.

Further investigative findings reveal that, the Special Guest of Honour Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, PhD, FNSE has a joint business affiliation and partnership with both the State Government and the African Export-Import (Afreximbank) to set up the best Market in Owerri and luckily the project site is situated in Nekede Owerri West, Imo state Nigeria.
It is on record that another development feat in the area was attracted by His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma through the State Ministry of Trade, commerce and Investment to establish Owerri central market.
Hon. Dr Chika Benson Obazu is the Honourable commissioner while Rt Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi – Majority Leader IMHA serves as LOC Chairman because Owerri West is his constituency.
Recall that Rt Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi is the chairman House committee on Lands and OCDA and has been playing the needed role as a capacity legislator evident in both 9th and 10th Assembly IMHA as gathered by 9News Nigeria.
With the recent groundbreaking exercise coming up Friday, Imolites are asking the reason Former Governors of the state have decided to ignore such development until Governor Hope Uzodinma came onboard to set up another pace in the economic development hub of Imo State Nigeria.
