Guinea-Bissau’s army says it has thwarted a military takeover attempt and arrested several military officers on the eve of the start of the general election campaigning.
The county’s Deputy Chief of Staff, General Mamadu Ture, said the group attempted to “subvert the constitutional order” detaining several senior army officers accused of scheming to denial the nation’s upcoming general elections.

The arrest took place on October 30, mere hours before the official start of campaigning for legislative and presidential votes slated for November 23, 2025.
Among those detained was Brigadier General Daba Nawalna (also known as Dahaba Na Walna, director of the Cumere Military Training Centre and former President of the Military High Court. The West African Nation will hold presidential elections on November 23, 2025.
