Five youths have been reportedly killed on Tuesday after gunmen stormed a mining site in Gero village, Gyel District of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 3pm, hours after another reported attack around National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, Kuru.
The killing were confirmed in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong.
The association alleged that the attack formed part of the growing security threats in communities around the area and expressed concerns over the safety of residents and strategic national institutions.
The group called for urgent intervention by security agencies to prevent attacks and restore confidence among affected communities, and urged government authorities to strengthen security surveillance and ensure the protection of lives and property.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the latest attack.
The incident adds to series of violent attacks that have recently affected communities in Jos South, with residents and community leaders calling on security agencies and government authorities to take urgent measures to protect lives and prevent further bloodshed.
