A serving Nigerian military intelligence officer Colonel Abdussalam A. Ude, has been shot dead after reportedly resisting armed men who attempted to abduct him at his residence in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The senior officer, was said to be due for promotion next year, but was attacked shortly after arriving at his residence on Monday evening, July 27, 2026.
However, the officer resisted and was shot several times “They came during the rain.They wanted to kidnap him, but he resisted. He was shot multiple times”, a community source said.
According to reports, the gunmen subsequently shot him multiple times at close range, killing him on the spot. During the attack, assailants also opened fire on members of his household, leaving his wife, driver and security guard with varying degrees of gunshot injuries. The victims were rushed to the hospital and are currently receiving treatment.
The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Kurudu reportedly visited the scene on Tuesday and evacuated Ude’s body to a morgue.
Initial reports placed the incident in Abuja, but the Federal Capital Territory Police Command clarified that the attack occurred in Nasarawa State.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Command said investigations ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammad Sanusi, established that the incident took place in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, and not within the jurisdiction of the FCT.
“Investigation revealed that the incident occurred in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and not within the jurisdiction of the FCT Police Public as falsely portrayed in the circulating publications”, the statement read.
Before his death, Colonel Ude served in several strategic military intelligence and counter-terrorism appointments within the armed Forces.
Colonel Ude hails from Ibagwa-Aka town in Igbo Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State.
