Following the controversy bedevilling Nigerian security architecture, the original Hausa communities across the regions in Nigeria have called for thorough separation of the real Hausa origin from the Fulani Jihadists.
The call came as a refutal by Hausa community to be mis-identified as Fulani Jihadists allegedly troubling the security of the country across the thirsty six states of the Federation including the Federal Capital territory FCT Abuja.
Several institutions in Nigeria have been attacked including lives and properties by repeated insecurity occasioned by the dreaded ISIS , Bokoharam insurgency, Unknown gun men and their cohorts affiliate groups alleged to have originated by the influx of Fulani Jihadists across Nigerian states.
There are several security reports indicating huge loss of lives and properties in Nigeria and similarly reoccurrence of banditry, abduction, corruption, killïngs , rape and attacks on churches in Nigeria.
On the early hours of Christmas, United States military fired missiles at a suspected ISIS/Bokoharam den in Sokoto State Nigeria from information gathered by diplomatic syndicates in Nigeria. Such attack has helped drastically though it was a warning signal to bandits to stay clear from operation in Nigeria.
There has been diplomatic discussions after such a missile attack of bandit’s camp in Sokoto State Nigeria and such warning signal has raised leadership bars by government. The All Progressives Congress APC leading party has warned bandits to stay clear and stop incessant attacks on Nigerians.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has also applauded US President Trump for such an unexpected but well targetted action while calling for more robust security intelligence and coverage across the states of the Federation.
Some Governors of various States in Nigeria have also keyed into the security policy of the renewed hope agenda of APC government to mobilize civil guards across rural communities to synchronise the ultimatum issued by President Tinubu for the AIG to mobilize more Police personnel to boost the operations of NPF.
To this effect therefore, Hausa tribe in Nigeria have disassociate itself from any activity or act committed by the Fulani tribe in Nigeria. Hausawa of Nigeria wishes to be called Hausa and not Fulani and therefore pleaded the government to issue every Hausa tribe a due identify card. Hausawa Nigeria also through various reliable sources advocated for separation from Fulani Jihadists allegedly fusing insecurity in the country.
“Fulani tribe is the origin of Jihad of Sokoto caliphate. The Fulani Jihadists, also known as the Fulani militants or Fulani extremists, aren’t exactly a tribe but rather a group associated with the Fulani ethnic group in Nigeria.
The Fulani are actually the largest nomadic ethnic group globally, spread across West Africa, including Nigeria. Historically, they led a jihad (holy war) in the 19th century under Usman dan Fodio, establishing the Sokoto Caliphate.
Nowadays, some Fulani people are involved in conflicts with other groups over land and resources, especially in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
In Nigeria, Fulani and Hausa are two distinct groups, but they are often intertwined.
- Hausa: Hausa are an ethnic group primarily found in northern Nigeria, with their own language (Hausa language). They’re mainly farmers, traders, and businesspeople.
- Fulani (Fulbe): Fulani are a pastoralist (nomadic cattle herders) ethnic group spread across West Africa, including Nigeria. They have their own language (Fula). Some Fulani are settled, while others are nomadic.
The key difference is:
- Ethnicity/Language: Hausa are an ethnic group with their language, while Fulani are another ethnic group with their own language.
- Occupation: Hausa are more into farming/trading; Fulani are traditionally herders.
However, there is a mix due to historical interactions, and some Fulani have assimilated into Hausa culture (e.g., Hausa-Fulani in northern Nigeria).
The call for separation of Hausa from Fulani tribe and issuance of identification and data collation can be a good step to checking criminality but the government have a critical role to play in achieving this feat. Other regions and tribe can also align to this modus operandi and by so doing, regional government may be ushered in.
Speaking with some non -Hausa and Fulani experts in some camps visited in the North, majority were of the opinion to grant hausawa Nigerians such plight and same time identify other regions. Fulani groups interviewed in this process affirmed the development.
