There is hope for Ndi Anambra as the senator representing Anambra south in the 9th senate announced the passage of his bill for the second reading. The bill when implemented will attract Federal Institute of Information morning and Communication Uga in Aguata Local government . The senator announced this on his Facebook page after the Wednesday plenary. The post read;

To the glory of God, today being Wednesday; December 9, 2020, I led the debate for the establishment of the Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Uga which was sponsored and read by me for the first time on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, 7th July, 2020.

Undoubtedly, technology is extremely important in various workplaces as a means of communication. Today, businesses rely on it heavily as technology allows many businesses to expand more quickly by having the proper means to promote.

The Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Uga when established will carry out scientific and applied research in the area of modern information technology application to optimize processes and decision support system. This bill will also provide dynamic learning infrastructure with quality education through rigorous teaching and research methodologies in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The institute will provide academic programmes with quality curricula focus to forge professionals, experts and scholars in the field of Information Technology, Communication, Electronics, Software Engineering and Telemedicine.

In view of the foregoing, the establishment of this institute is predicated on but not limited to the following reasons:

  1. To provide Full time and part time courses in Information and Communication Technology, Engineering Technology, Applied Sciences, Management Sciences and other fields of study leading to the award of Ordinary National Diploma, Higher National Diploma and certificates in specialized programes.
  2. To arrange conferences, seminars and study groups relevant to specified fields of learning.
  3. To provide a well developed and articulate technical education through consistent research, development and constant contact with renowned institutions and appropriate industries.
  4. To provide appropriate training and vocational dexterity for self reliant and focused Nigerian students, as well as to provide industrial skills for those who want to be employers of labour or gainfully employed.
  5. To perform such other functions which will serve to promote the objectives of the institute and to carry out other activities that are necessary and expedient for the full discharge of any of its functions pursuant to this Bill.

Conclusively, ICT is the trending best practice all over the world, and an institute specifically designated for this purpose should be a welcome development. The Institute of Information and Communication Technology Bill is therefore an effort to create an institution that would generate employment and produce the qualitative workforce needed for ICT development in Nigeria.
