In the 2027 journey to Douglas House, two critical factors should be considered in electing the next Imo Governor. First is the capacity of the candidate to understanding the crave and urgency for development especially dearth of infrastructure, revenue mobilization and job creation for the unemployed people. The second factor is acceptability of the candidate across the three zones of the State.

Assessing candidates on the basis of these factors, Charles Orie stands out. His innovative mindset and revolutionary attributes to civilization, strong commitment to agreements and sustenance of alliances, native wisdom in problems solving, vast social and political contacts home and abroad, knowledge base and wealth of experience in the business world as a technocrat who spent most of his adult life in the civilized world and as a humble leader with visible presence both in the State and national politics, gives him an edge above other aspirants for Imo’s top job.

The argument on Ohaji as part of Owerri zone that gained traction in the discussions has now been settled just like we saw the coming of the current President General of OHANEZE NDIGBO, being an Ikwere man

What Ohaji is to Owerri Province is likened to the paradox of Igweocha and Igboland. The argument returned positive in favour of Ikwere being a critical part of Igboland given it’s strategic position as the economic hub of the old Eastern region, which is exactly the position of Ohaji in Imo State being a critical enclave in Owerri zone.

The core of Igbo civilization was Port Harcourt, originally named Igweocha by the Igbo progenitors who founded and developed the Island, meaning that Port Harcourt is part of the Igbo heritage.

Probing further at the national level, in the ensued arguments to produce a replacement for late President Yardua from Southern Nigeria, a man named Gooluck Jonathan was chosen, as a solution to douse the then tension and scare of the North in conceding power to the South East just as some sections in Orlu and Okigwe zones are expressing reservations for Douglas House to be conceded to central Owerri. Same situation presented itself Ohaji in Owerri zone and a consensus candidate should then serve as the solution in Imo in the choice of Charles Orie as the consensus candidate of nde Owere, nde Orlu and nde Okigwe for implementation of the Imo Charter Of Equity.

A Man of God named this prophesy as “paradox” !

Again, looking at the prevalent move by Nigerians to reclaiming the oil rich Bakassi peninsula, reclaiming Ohaji should indeed be the most strategic political decision of Owerri zone given the huge economic potential of this part of Owerri, not minding Nigeria’s divide and rule politics of zoning.

It is therefore exigent, timely and most ideal for Owerri people to take advantage of this moment to reclaim their lost territory for repositioning of Owerri zone to benefitting from this their oil rich enclave for enhancing development of the Sam Mbakwe/Owerri Master Plan that connected both Okigwe and Orlu zones. Assuredly, it is Charles Orie on the saddle of governance in Imo that can deliver the expected results on this all inclusive vision.

In retrospect, it is unfortunate that Ohaji have not been accommodated in the Imo power sharing equation. With all the human and material resources the area have donated to Imo they have not been given the opportunity to even produced a Senator since the amalgamation of Nigeria in 1914. Therefore, the unanimous resolution on Charles Orie as the next Governor of Imo State would have settled the grave injustice as well as mutually beneficial to the entire zones.

Pushing the argument further, Owerri has a resounding case under the charter of equity but, with Okigwe seriously clamouring for Ohakim to be allowed to complete a second term and Orlu still scheming to sustain their grip on power, isn’t is better that the entire zones unanimously adopted a candidate who will be fair to all, instead of plunging Imo into further political tension and eventual crisis and particularly as Ohaji occupies a critical and strategic position in Imo State and for the Igbo race?

The Igbo proverb that “It’s better to cut the tail of our cow instead of it running away completely” has found route in the widely held arguments for Ohaji, as the paradox to a successful implementation of the Imo Charter Of Equity. This appeal is for consideration of people of good conscience.
