The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has recounted how he brought the former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, into politics and helped him to raise N300 million he used to campaign for the governorship election.
According to Philip Shaibu, in 2006, he went to Adams Oshiomhole and told him to come into politics but Adams Oshiomhole refused. Shaibu stated that Oshiomhole told him that he did not want to go into politics due to how hectic it can be.
Shaibu disclosed that after much persuasion, Oshiomhole decided to come into politics and run for the office of the governor of Edo State. Shaibu narrated that back then, Oshiomhole did not have money, so he set up a meeting with Godwin Obaseki who arranged for businesswomen who raised N300 million for Oshiomhole.
Shaibu went on to say that he was the person who put some of the big projects that were done by Adams Oshiomhole into the budget. Shaibu explained that Oshiomhole was afraid to include the projects in the budget because he did not know what people from another Senatorial district will say about the projects.
Shaibu said that Adams Oshiomhole betrayed him after all the investments he put in to ensure that he emerged as governor of Edo State. Shaibu said that he did not enjoy anything from Oshiomhole’s government despite being the one that put him there.
