I faced a lot of financial struggles – Crayon narrates his come up

Popular Nigerian music sensation, Charles Chibueze Chukwu, known professionally as Crayon, has stated that he used to hawk fruits in Lagos traffic.

He said this during an interview with Saturday Beats on his album, ‘Trench to Triumph’, explaining how the album is all about where he came from and how he got to where he is currently.

“We moved from Orile Iganmu (Lagos) to a ‘face-me-I-face-you’ apartment in Ojo when I was seven years old. We were about nine or ten people sharing a room.

“As the first child of my parents, I faced a lot of financial struggles while growing up. I was sent home regularly from school because of unpaid fees, and I ended up taking the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) five times.

“I was working on my music at that time and also helping my mom at the market where she sold fruits. Sometimes, I would even hawk the fruits in traffic.

“Going from that kind of life to being signed by Mavin Records, and on my way to becoming a global superstar is my triumph. I used to be in the trenches and now I am triumphant.” He said.
