Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of Plateau State has dismissed rumours suggesting he plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating unequivocally that he remains committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
“I have no plans to leave PDP for APC. I haven’t had that conversation with anyone”, Governor Mutfwang said, addressing speculation making the rounds.
He attributed the rumours to two or three groups, noting that while one of the groups may be well-intentioned, they misunderstand the political landscape of the state.
“The APC has never truly existed in Plateau State. They have been in government by fraud for the past right years”, he said.
“In 2015, the APC didn’t win the election. What happened was internal dissatisfaction within the PDP, which led to some anti-party activities – but even then, APC still didn’t win”.
Recalling events from that election period, Mutfwang said; “I was a local government chairman at the time. We adjourned collation at 8pm to resume the next morning, but by 2am when I woke up to urinate, I discovered the results had already been declared”.
He also alleged irregularities in the 2019 elections, saying that the he remain convinced that PDP’s late Jeremiah Useni, won the 2019 election, but the shenanigans in the system saw someone else declared”.
Mutfwang said, “The majority of those who led APC in Plateau carry a trust deficit.
“There are genuine APC members who wish we could lend our credibility to them. But Plateau politics doesn’t work like that”
Reaffirming his political allegiance, Mutfwang emphasized that the majority of Plateau people have always stood with the PDP.
“The majority of Plateau people always been PDP – and they remain PDP. Even during the last eight years, some local governments couldn’t conduct elections out of fear of losing.
“I am a bonafide member of the PDP”, he declared, expressing confidence that the party’s internal issues would soon be resolved.
“I am very optimistic that very soon, the PDP crisis will be a thing of the past”, he assured.
