Madam Elizabeth Evoeme, affectionately remembered as Ovularia from the popular 80s TV series ‘The New Masquerade’, has died at the age of 81.
Born December 1, 1942, Ovularia’s family member confirmed her death, stating she peacefully departed while surrounded by loves ones.
The Evoeme Emekalam family, in a statement expressed gratitude towards fans, friends,, and colleagues for their support, and requested privacy during this time of mourning.
“Friends, fans and colleagues, the family of legendary actress, Elizabeth Lizzy ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme, would like to notify the public, and all those who loved her work in ‘The New Masquerade’ of her passing.
“ELizabeth ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme will be dearly missed and was extremely loved by her family and also by you, her fans.
“We thank you for your support and for respecting our privacy at this time. God bless you all and may our dear Elizabeth ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme rest in peace, now and always”.
Ovularia’s daughter, Justina Ngozi Evoeme, based in London, expressed her shock and grief over her mother’s passing, saying, I need to get my head around what has happened”.
This news followed false rumours in 2019, when a Twitter post by one Churchill Ebhodeghe ignited rumours about Ovularia’s demise.
Ovularia had refuted these rumours then, clarifying she was not seriously ill while condemning those responsible for spreading false information.
Chika Opala, renowned for his portrayal of Chief Zebrudaya Okoroigwe Nwaogbe in ‘The Masquerade, also dismissed the rumours in 2019, affirming Ovulatia’s well-being.
