Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam, known as Akon is a Senegalese-American rapper, singer, song writer, and a business man, an infuential figure in a modern world music, rose to prominence in 2004 following the released of his debut single “locked up”.

He spoke recently on how he was able to manage his wealth and not going broke like other celebrities.

“If you wanna be rich, don’t buy anything that’s more ten percent of your money. It’s called the 10% rule and it has kept me rich.

“What I did to remain rich and never go broke like other celebrities is I’ve got a 10% rule. If whatever I’m purchasing is more than 10% of what I have in my account, I won’t buy it. If you wanna buy a car for $100 and you don’t have up to $1million in your account, don’t buy it. That goes the same with every other thing. If you wanna buy a house that cost $1 million and you haven’t got $10 million in your account, don’t buy it. Instead of spending all the money to buy those expensive things, invest it.

“Trust me when I say you’ll never wanna be poor again If you’ve ever experienced true poverty”
