FC Ifeanyi Ubah are technically through to the semi-finals of the 2016 Federation Cup as Warri Wolves walked out of their quarter-final fixture in Ijebu Ode yesterday.
The Anambra Warriors were leading 1-0 till the end of regulation time, courtesy of goal by Adeleye Olamilekun in the first half. But Warri Wolves, who saw defeat staring them in the face walked out of the pitch a minute into added time after an offside call by the centre referee as three of their players were cut in the offside play.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah, which have maintained an unbeaten run in nine competitive games will face Crown FC of Ogbomosho in the semi-final clash.
Crown FC have so far been responsible for the ouster of top NPFL teams from the Federation Cup. They denied Enugu Rangers a place in the quarter-finals. Again, they defeated Wikki Tourists 4-3 on penalties after a pulsating goalless draw at full time.
But the chairman of FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Chukwuma Uba, said his team is already looking forward to the semi-final match against Crown FC which according to him deserves good preparations.
“We are taking the fixtures as they come. For Crown FC to have come this far means they are good. We will prepare to play our game and we will give it the approach it deserves. By the grace of God, will play in the final of the Federation Cup for the first time,” he said.
Meanwhile, defending champions, Akwa United they lost 4-2 on penalties to Nasarawa United after fulltime scores stood at 0-0.
The quarter-final match between Enyimba and Rivers United, which was rained off yesterday after a goalless first half in Ibadan, will resume today by 9am
