The Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has said majority of kidnappings and killings in Anambra and other South East States are perpetrated by Igbos.
Soludo also said that 99% of all the arrested kidnappers in the state are Igbos, not Fulani herdsmens as widely believed.
The Governor made the remarks while speaking at an interactive town hall meeting with Anambra indigenes in diaspora, which was held at Metro Point Hotel in New Carrollton, Maryland United States.
The statement which was made on July 7, has drawn a sharp and damning response from the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Inter society), a human rights and advocacy group in Nigeria.
Speaking on the group who claim to be liberating the South eastern region, Soludo said many of them are Igbo youths involved in violent and lucrative criminality for personal “enrichment”.
“Let stop deceiving ourselves. Ask yourself: how do these so-called liberator survive in the forests for months without local support? Who feed them?”, Soludo questioned.
“I have been in office for 3 years and 3 months, If we have arrested 100 criminals in the bush such as kidnappers, etc, 99% of them are “Umuaka Igbo”.
He further mentioned that Igbo youths have embraced kidnapping as most lucrative business after Yahoo Yahoo, thereby dismissing the security reports about Fulani herdsmen occupying forests in Anambra as false narratives”.
