9News Nigeria (Abuja) – The apex organization representing all Igbo-speaking people in Abuja, known as the Igbo Community Association (ICA) FCT, has called on Igbos residing across the 19 northern states of Nigeria to unite and empower themselves through the acquisition of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in order to fully participate in the electoral process as patriotic citizens of Nigeria.
In a press statement signed by the President General and made available to 9News Nigeria on Tuesday, Ellis-Ezenekwe reaffirmed that mobilizing Igbos for voter registration is a vital step toward strengthening their political participation and influence in Nigeria.
The call followed a closed-door meeting held in Kano State on September 1, 2025, where the President General of ICA FCT, Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, urged Igbo-speaking people to seize the opportunity to obtain their PVCs while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues its voter registration exercise.
“It is highly important that our people come out and register to vote this time around. Nigeria is at a critical point in history where the Igbo-speaking people must participate and demonstrate their capacity. We can no longer remain on the sidelines,” Ellis-Ezenekwe stated.
The Abuja-based Igbo leader also called on the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, to join efforts in mobilizing Igbo communities across the country to participate fully in the democratic process.
“We must disregard previous calls for Igbos to abstain from Nigeria’s electoral process. We are Nigerians, and we must participate actively in shaping our future. Non-participation has not earned us any measurable benefits. Now, we must embrace a better and more strategic approach,” he emphasized.
Ellis-Ezenekwe noted that the Igbo Community Association FCT represents an estimated 3.5 million Igbos in the Federal Capital Territory.
“Our target is to ensure that at least 70% of our people are registered to vote and empowered with their PVCs,” he said.
He further urged Igbo leaders across the 19 northern states to support the initiative and encourage their communities to register and vote in the forthcoming elections.
