Magaji Amos Gwamna, a national lawmaker and chairman, House Committee on Health, has led a delegation of his committee members to Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital, to address issues of immunization and other health concerns in the state.
The visit, which took place on Monday, is aimed at supervising and evaluating health related issues in the state.
According to the Mr. Amos, the visit is also part of their ongoing legislative oversight on critical healthcare delivery issues across the country.
He explained that the exercise focused on two key areas, assessing the situation in states with high numbers of zero-dose children, those who have never received any routine immunization and evaluating the release and utilization of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund.
He noted that the case of children that have never received any routine immunization is a matter of urgent national concern.
The lawmakers were seen visiting several health facilities within Maiduguri.

The team also paid a courtesy visit to Alh. Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, the Shehu of Borno.

Similarly, Mr. Amos has witnessed a groundbreaking healthcare intervention by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH)
Zulum donated N1 billion to support kidney transplants at the hospital during a brief ceremony.
On a post on his Facebook page, Amos said that ”this powerful gesture is more than financial aid, it’s a lifeline for the most vulnerable and a true reflection of leadership rooted in compassion and vision.”
He commended Governor Zulum for the intervention, while asserting his commitment in supporting initiatives that transform lives and strengthen the healthcare system.
During the ceremony, UMTH commissioned several projects, including the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Medical ICT Centre, Interventional Radiology Unit, Prof. Jibril Aminu Heart Centre and Stroke & Neuroscience Centr,also named after the Shehu of Borno.

Other projects are Amb. Babagana Kingibe MRI Unit and Linear Accelerator, donated by Chief Emeka Offor.
The event brought together several national leaders and stakeholders, including Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, Minister of Health, the Shehu of Borno, Amb. Babagana Kingibe, Dr. Didi Walson-Jack (HOSF), members of the National Assembly and heads of federal tertiary hospitals among others.
