The Imo House of Assembly has adjourned sitting to Tuesday next week 12th December 2023 after delibrating on critical issues to make the state better in helping his Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma deliver governance.

Our correspondent reports that motion to urge His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodinma, to direct relevant commissioners in the state to take immediate action to enhance the fourth coming re-accreditation exercise in Imo college of nursing sciences, Orlu was presented be for the House as directed by the Hon SPEAKER IMHA Hon CHIKE OLEMGBE.

On this therefore a Bill for a law to further amend state public procurement law No, 12 of 2010 was chief sponsored by Hon innocent Ikpamezie and Co – Sponsored by Hon Ugochukwu obodo, Hon Chisom Ojukwu and Hon Beneth Ebonine.

In furtherance, Bill for a law to amend the Imo state college of education law number 11 of 2010 was Chief sponsored by Hon Bernard Ozoemela and Co- Sponsored by Hon Kennedy Ibeh, Hon Samuel Ogbunikpa, Hon Samuel Osuji, Hon Kelechi Ofurum and Hon James Esile.

However, a bill for law to provide for skills acquisition and craftsmanship as mandatory course in all primary schools, secondary schools and tertiary institutions in Imo state and other related matter went for second reading.

The above bills presented by the Honorable Members went into speedy readings and passage while urging Governor Uzodinma to do the immediate needful on the following factors:

That Whereas Education is the fulcrum upon which the society moves and that Imo state Nigeria is well know for excellent performance in education in Nigeria.

The house while acknowledging that health is wealth and that well-trained health personnels assure provision of good health facilities made a speedy reading of this bill.

Members also noted that Imo state college of nursing Orlu is a glory to Imo state considering their performance in Council examination.

In addition, it was noted by the Honourable Members that Imo state Quota for administration of students into the college of medicine is minimized resulting from insufficient facilities such as well equipped ICT center , Library and well built up classroom blocks and offices.

For the concern on equipping of such facility to give Imolites schooling in the Nursing college, Honourable Members observed that the college needs Laptops and other audio and visual equipment and restructuring of dilapidated buildings that would encourage the Nursing and Midwifery Council to increase the state quota in the forth coming re-accreditation exercise for the benefit Imo children.

In finality, the House resolved to urge His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma, to direct also the commissioner for Digital Economy and E- Government in the state to release some quality Laptops to the College to enhance their chances during the re-accreditation exercise.

Our correspondent reports that the honourable members also urged the governor to direct the commissioner for Housing to carry out on-the-spot on the dilapidated buildings in the College premises to ascertain immediate action to be taken to ensure a successful re-accreditation as Chief sponsored by Hon Dr Henry Agbasonu and co-sponsored by the Deputy speaker IMHA Hon Chyna Amara Iwuanyanwu, Hon Samuel Ogbunikpa, Hon Chisom Osuji and Hon Okechukwu Udeze.

Another commendation to the State Legislators was the Immortalizing of Late Rt.Hon.Benjamin Uwajumogu, who served the good people of Ihitte-Uboma State Constituency twice in the Imo State House of Assembly for a period of eight (8) Years and later went to the Senate in Abuja-Nigeria, where he represented the people of Okigwe Zone and made several positive legislative inputs that favoured his people before his death.

Reports of the Adhoc Committee of Two Bills (A Bill For A Law To Amend The Imo State Public Procurement Law NO. 12 of 2010, And A Bill For A Law To Amend The Imo State College Of Education Law No 11 of 2010, which were laid before the House at the last sitting (30/11/2023), were considered in the Committee of the Whole House.

For the Bill For A Law To Amend The Imo State Public Procurement Law NO. 12 of 2010, all the recommendations of the Adhoc Committee were considered and Adopted and passed.

Benjamin Uwajimogu (State) College of Education Ihite-Uboma was okayed by the House and public procurement bill now a law in Imo state.

The Majority Leader IMHA Rt Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi performed his legislative function as the Majority Leader of the 10th house and further moved the motion for the house to reconvene plenary on Tuesday 12th December.
