IMO: The death of Rtd General Ogbonna of Avu community in Owerri West local government Area of Nigeria has been described as a collosal lose in the entire Old Owerri political bloc, Owerri West, Avu community and Imo state at large.
It is very obvious that Major General Rowland Nkwazema Ogbonna who served in the Nigerian Army and retired meritoriously as a Major General is dead and the people of Avu Owerri West have continued to mourn his demise as 9News Nigeria reports.
At a condolence visit to the bereaved family this Wednesday morning, 9News Nigeria reports that burial arrangement is on high gear by the committee set in place to handle the event.
A direct younger brother of the late Army General told 9News Nigeria that the burial is scheduled to hold on the 25th of April, 2025 at his Avu country home along Owerri PortHarcourt road in Imo State Nigeria.
Recall that Rowland Nkwazema Ogbonna died in London after a brief illness. His death came at a ripe age when he has accomplished his mission on earth in various capacities and service delivery.
There is no doubt, Major General Nkwazema Ogbonna lived a fulfilled life and established some iconic legacies visible in the sands of time as condolences have continued to flow at the time of filling this report by Princely Onyenwe, 9News Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the news of the demise of Late Ndaa Nkwazema Rowland Ogbonna came as a rude shock in Imo state and mostly to his Avu and Owerri West local government area.
The family source told 9News Nigeria that “Ndaa Nkwazema Ogbonna, a respectful brother and lovely father to the entire Ogbonna family has passed unto glory at a hospital in London since 10th December, 2024 and will be buried on 25th April, 2025 in Avu Imo state.
Major General Rowland Nkwazema Ogbonna felt sick and was flown to London for thorough medical checks and treatment, where he finally passed onto eternity as gathered by 9News Nigeria.
Recall that , Ndaa Ogbonna as fondly called by his family relatives and close allies served meritoriously in the Nigerian Army and retired accordingly. He was enjoying his retirement benefits and making peace among the people of his constituency before his eternal call of nature.
Owerri West cannot forget in a hurry such a great personality who served the Nigerian Army gallantly and contributed immensely to the stability of the old Owerri zone political bloc, establishment of the political blocs in Owerri West and Imo State politics at large.
9News Nigeria authoritatively reports that major general Ogbonna was a great asset to Imo state during his days in military service. He utilized his youthful days to serve the country, Imo state, Owerri West, Avu Community and contributed immensely to the uplift of God across various churches and welfare based organizations.
Until death, Late Rowland Nkwazema Ogbonna was instrumental to the development and advancement of politics in the state. As a respected Army General, had good stake in the deliberations and governance of Imo State which gave him several recognitions from series of Imo Governors till his last days in the tenure of His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma CON.
At his Avu residence, Late Army General Ogbonna was a rallying point in community settlement and peace talk. He also played a lot of roles in the then Fmr Governor Mbakwe’s administration to give Owerri zone a political shape alongside some notable departed souls and few other like minds still living till date.
In furtherance, I have witnessed some resolution panels and settlement of disputes chaired by Late Major General Rowland Nkwazema Ogbonna.
Also, the history of the political migration of Owerri zone in the early creation of Imo state was banked in his memory and was transferred to the records of some younger generation before his demise.
He was a good educator, teacher, counsellor, political rallying point and gallant soldier before his demise in London. A visit to the Avu country home of Late Major General Rowland Nkwazema Ogbonna of blessed memory will remind us of the history of Jaji camp, Wilson Mandela Way, Old Calabar, Ashanti Villa, Teshie Villa as carved out and segmented on different buildings in his compound.
In the last moments of his earthly mission, 9News Nigeria recorded some videos of this highly respected retired soldier, when he summoned several meetings in his Avu aboriginal residence to reconcile the political blocs in Owerri West and Owerri zone en-large.

The program of his burial as released by the Ogbonna immediate family inline with the schedule of the burial committee is 25th April .. Until then, 9News Nigeria wishes to join the bereaved family to pray for his gentle soul to rest in God.
